Slumps

I suppose it’s the same for any other sport, even at a recreational level. You have your good weeks, your bad weeks, and then you realize that you’ve had a string of bad weeks that dates back to when the trees still had leaves, and Maine was still full of New Yorkers.

Maybe it’s that I thought bowling twice a week instead of once would be cool. Perhaps it’s working a stressful job. Maybe its the groin discomfort (seriously, bowling with any sort of groin tweak or pull is sheer agony.) It can’t really be any of those things though. Just excuses.

Tonight ended up being interesting, because, after four months of this, I was fed up. Any sort of routine or setup was tossed out the window (think baseball pitcher suddenly deciding that this is the best way to throw a ball.) I got angry! And it worked!

I threw a strike! Followed it up with some good boxes, made some marks! Had a 116 (17 over average for the league.) Kept going! More strikes! 131! Haven’t bowled that well since last summer, when I started and abandoned this little corner of the internet.

What happens next? Should I go into my league nights angry? Maybe catch up on some political news? Stub my toe? Get into random arguments with my co-workers? It’s nice to bowl well, but I wonder if it’s as much fun to be good, and not enjoy the experience.
